Howard Milstein Introduces the "Milstein Innovation in Infrastructure Project"

November 23rd, 2024

On November 7, 2024, Howard Milstein unveiled the “Milstein Innovation in Infrastructure Project” at the Manhattan Institute. Following his opening remarks, Milstein engaged with the audience, addressing questions about the initiative, reflecting on his role in the historic Tappan Zee Bridge replacement, and sharing his vision for strengthening the nation’s infrastructure through innovation.

The “Milstein Innovation in Infrastructure Project” will consist of a series of papers and events designed to explore strategies for improving public infrastructure projects by applying private sector expertise and best practices. In a newly published Manhattan Institute issue brief, Milstein, former Chairman of the New York State Thruway Authority, highlights the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement as a case study in modernizing infrastructure procurement—a process that delivered the project on time and approximately $2 billion under the original budget estimate.
